E-Bikes

The electric bike, or e-bike, was one of the original projects that kicked off the innovation hub.

It uses recycled laptop batteries and 3d printed battery modules. We convert a standard bike (often taken from scrap) by adding our batteries and a purchased mid-drive motor kit. It has a pretty large battery pack – over 1kW-hour which provides a range of around 100km with minimal peddling.

The packs are designed to have a very long life and often a battery pack of this size is the most expensive component in E-bikes. By using recycled laptop batteries we can reduce the cost of the e-bike to just the cost of the motor kit.
We use the e-bike as an educational tool to teach people how to build battery systems and e-bikes – we don’t sell them.
